LORE

An escaped elven slave from Tevinter who made a name for herself amongst the dead and dying. Natah is a dangerous mage skilled in necromancy, but even more dangerous with her silver tongue. She leads a cult named the Brood of the Deathsinger and reads from scripture from the Tome of Miseries which details a history long lost. She occupies a derelict keep above Azdûsh, the Eternal Basilisk's abode, she calls it the Lucent Keep, the fortress had once belonged to a rogue sect of Tevinter soldiers conquered by the Deathsinger. Between the two they have struck an accord, the details unknown but it means nothing good.Through Azdûsh, Natah had learned the creation process of a Throne World naming it Court of the Deathsinger, High Coven. Requiring a sacrifice, Natah would sacrifice her beauty which would fulfill her requirements to completing the ritual. Within the material plane, she can use her arcane abilities to put up a front, however within her Throne World she will be forced to remain in her Deathsinger form. After the creation of the Pûshgrish, The Undying Hydra and his first prophecy being fulfilled, the Hellmouth had been created destroying the Lucent Keep and majority of the Brood of the Deathsinger. Being Killed in the attack, Natah remains within her Throne World recuperating to retaliate. Despite her weakened state, thanks to her high celebrants she was able to create the Tablet of Ruin which effectively made it possible for Natah to no longer be bound to Azdûsh and take control of all arcane users who step foot in her Throne World.

CHANT OF THE DEATHSINGER

The Chant of the Deathsinger is the religious belief system that the Brood of the Deathsinger follows. The Chant stems from the teachings that originate from the Tome of Miseries from which Natah, the Deathsinger reads from.Despite the name, the Chant of the Deathsinger isn't a doomsday cult, rather they view themselves as a savior figure instead of a herald of the end. As written in the Tome of Miseries, scripture dictates that Thedas didn't always exist and neither did any of the races that inhabited the land. Rather it had been a world of pure darkness. Three Serpent Gods of the Deep would exist within the world but would bicker incessantly with each other, eventually as an act of defiance and absolute desperation, Mörk-Khel’kis, Father of Ash would rip a Breach in reality splitting the world in three: The Fade, The Deep, and Thedas. This would be the catalyst in the creation for many things.Firstly, monsters, monsters are distinguished from the native creatures of Thedas by two criteria: their reaction to Lyrium and their lack of sentience or obvious intelligence. Due to the split in reality, many beasts from The Deep made their way into the lands of Thedas and they do not belong.Secondly, the Fade, when the Breach occurred the Fade was created and from it spawned Man, Elves, and Qunari. Due to originating from the Fade and entering Thedas this would give a reason as to why these races can control magic. However, dwarves were created in conjunction with Thedas and are native there which would explain their natural indisposition to magic. Finally, demons and spirits. As dictated by the Tome of Miseries, demons and spirits are remnants of the Deathsinger's soul. They linger within the Fade trying to conjoin and become one again to repair the Breach and connect all three dimensions into one.The belief is a natural enemy of the Chantry and is not ashamed to admit it. The Deathsinger's acolytes believe Andraste to be a heretic that was trying to usurp the Deathsinger. Additionally, the Chant dictates that the Golden City that Tevinter had sought centuries prior was always black, and the darkspawn that had emerged have always been there waiting and are creatures of the Deep. This paints Tevinter as another natural enemy of the Brood for disrupting the Breach even more. The Chant also places arcane abilities above all else, this stems from the innate requirement of having followers who are extremely in touch with the Fade to repair the Breach. Although, the Brood will not turn away non-magically inclined individuals who wants to become part of the Brood, rather they will be taken in as a thrall and can join the usual gatherings but be barred from ever becoming part of the Deathsinger's Opera or Choir and cannot step foot within the Court of the Deathsinger, High Coven. To become part of the Deathsinger's Opera is a highly esteemed title highly revered by the Brood, it is only beaten by becoming part of the Deathsinger's Choir which is nigh impossible but is still among the highest achievements that many seek. To become part of the Deathsinger's Opera, one must complete three accursed tasks given to them by Nedhi, Voice of the Deathsinger. Upon completion, a ceremony will be held called the Festival of the Lost where every potential Opera member from the last four months will be promoted. This festival lasts two weeks and sees the entire Lucent Keep celebrating. Once reaching Opera status, the Brood member will primarily reside within the Court of the Deathsinger, however they may travel freely to the Lucent Keep.Within the Court of the Deathsinger the practice becomes more intense and is lead by Nedhi, Voice of the Deathsinger and Quria, Deathsinger's Exalted Conjurer primarily rather than the Deathsinger herself however they are more devote than ever as all their promises have been held.

BROOD OF THE DEATHSINGER

The Brood of the Deathsinger is the collective name for those who either follow Natah, the Deathsinger or the Chant of the Deathsinger. Majority of them are arcane users however few are those without any arcane skill but are barred from becoming Natah's celebrants. The Brood of the Deathsinger is the collective name for those who follow the Chant of the Deathsinger and believe Natah, the Deathsinger is to repair the Breach of Thedas, The Deep, and The Fade. The ranks of the Brood are filled primarily of those who have a natural disposition to the arcane arts however there are few who follow the religion who aren't magically inclined. Keeping to themselves, the gatherings stay within the Lucent Keep and dedicate their lives to learning about the Tome of Miseries and achieving celebrant status to become part of the Deathsinger's Opera and potentially even becoming part of her Choir. Each one is promised to reach the Deathsinger's Throne World, Court of the Deathsinger, High Coven if they prove themselves devote enough to earn it.The politics of the Brood are relatively simple, at the helm of the religious gathering is Natah who is believed to be Deathsinger and is the one who can repair the Breach. Below her are eight high celebrants aptly called the Deathsinger's Choir, there have always been eight and there will always be eight, if one were to perish the Deathsinger herself will nominate the next. Below the Choir is the Opera, to become part of the Opera an acolyte must complete three accursed tasks given to them by Nedhi, Voice of the Deathsinger. These tasks typically take decades to complete, however, upon completion and during the next Festival of the Lost the potential Opera member will be promoted by the Deathsinger herself and be granted permissions to enter the High Coven. Beneath that are the typical acolyte members and are restricted to the Lucent Keep and all of Thedas, only those under Quria, Deathsinger's Exalted Conjurer may travel into the Fade. Then Finally, the thralls who are non-magic users who can still practice but cannot earn the three accursed tasks or become part of the Opera or Choir.

DEATHSINGER'S DOMINION

LUCENT KEEP

Within the Vimmark Mountains the Lucent Keep can be found. Originally a Tevinter fortress, it was taken over by rogue Tevinter military men but after Natah, the Deathsinger had escaped slavery she had killed all who remained inside and took control of it herself.Using the souls of the dead, she would imbue the stone of the fortress and create a catacomb passageway called the Chamber of Night which was the dwelling ground of Azdûsh, the Eternal Basilisk.

COURT OF THE DAETHSINGER, THE HIGH COVEN

The Court of the Deathsinger also known as the High Coven is the Throne World of Natah, the Deathsinger. As taught by Azdûsh, the Eternal Basilisk, Natah would forge her Throne World in her image of fine beauty although would have to sacrifice her own to do so as that was her great sacrifice to create the world.Within the material plane, Natah would be forced to uphold a façade of her previous mortal form using her arcane skill however within the confines of the Throne World she can no longer maintain the visage and be forced to live in her true body, the Deathsinger.Along with Natah, the anointed from the material plane may travel freely between the Throne World and the previous, however, they reside primarily within the Throne World as it is a high honor. Although, Natah acts more in the shadows while inside the Court as she is stuck in her [[Deathsinger]] form while in the world. This is where her high celebrant namely, Nedhi, Voice of the Deathsinger and Quria, Deathsinger's Exalted Conjurer act on Natah's behalf.

THE PACT

Known as the Eternal Basilisk, Azdûsh is the spawn of lies, it is believed that all of the misdeeds of humanity culminated to create him. As one of the two harbingers of doom, Azdûsh is the counterpart of Pûshgrish, The Undying Hydra, as Azdûsh cannot speak anything but falsehoods as he needs misconceptions to live.Azdûsh's only goal is to simply keep himself alive, he has learned that any falsehoods surrounding himself feed his vitality. This can be misunderstandings of Azdûsh's words, misconceptions of his purpose, or simply believing one of the several methods he spouts of preventing Pûshgrish's prophecies from occurring. As nature of Azdûsh, his origin is muddle with misunderstandings and falsehoods. Originating from The Deep, Azdûsh is the spawn of Ût-Fla’aine, Harbinger of Whispers, who is one of the Three Serpent Gods of the Deep. The Deep is a dimension of war; a playground for experiments created by the serpent gods to fight and die for their entertainment. Ût-Fla’aine had been the perpetual loser of these combat exhibitions and vowed to lose no more, it was agreed that these creatures would not be given divine abilities to prevent any unfair advantages however Azdûsh was given a remnant of his creator's power to give an advantage.Azdûsh would not give in to these blood sports, although, he would use his divine abilities to travel across realms to avoid the wrath of the Serpent Gods. He'd find solace within a lost keep deep in the Vimmark Mountains, later he would make a pact with Natah, the Deathsinger, allowing her to learn forbidden magic, particularly the skill of creating a Throne World, and assemble a cult devoted to her, in return Natah would feed Azdûsh by reading scripture from the Tome of Miseries, a bible written by Azdûsh.
